Il s&rsquo;agit d&rsquo;une r\u00e9action interm\u00e9diaire qui s\u2019entretient elle-m\u00eame, sans qu\u2019on ait besoin d\u2019apporter de l\u2019\u00e9nergie ext\u00e9rieure. Ce serait une premi\u00e8re \u00e9tape vers une v\u00e9ritable fusion nucl\u00e9aire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Situ\u00e9 en Californie, le LLNL exp\u00e9rimente la fusion nucl\u00e9aire depuis 2010. Le laboratoire s\u2019est dot\u00e9 d\u2019une imposante infrastructure d\u2019amplification capable de cr\u00e9er 192&nbsp;faisceaux laser d\u2019une puissance totale de presque 2&nbsp;m\u00e9gajoules. Ces faisceaux convergent vers une capsule contenant le \u00ab&nbsp;carburant&nbsp;\u00bb, \u00e0 savoir de l\u2019hydrog\u00e8ne, du deut\u00e9rium et du tritium.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La puissance du laser provoque un d\u00e9luge de rayons X qui am\u00e8ne la capsule \u00e0 des temp\u00e9ratures extr\u00eames et la fait imploser. Mais le rendement \u00e9nerg\u00e9tique est encore tr\u00e8s faible. Ces exp\u00e9riences ne g\u00e9n\u00e8rent pour l\u2019instant qu\u2019une \u00e9nergie de 60&nbsp;kilojoules.
