Aussi, afin de refroidir ces centres de donn\u00e9es, gourmands en \u00e9nergie, les entreprises exploitent les stratag\u00e8mes les plus divers. Chez Facebook, on mise sur le froid rigoureux de Su\u00e8de ; chez Yahoo, sur le water cooling \u00e0 grande \u00e9chelle, gr\u00e2ce aux chutes du Niagara\u2026 enfin, pour Microsoft, la solution est carr\u00e9ment sous-marine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">864 serveurs pour une capacit\u00e9 de stockage de 27,6 p\u00e9taoctets<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Ainsi, en 2016, l\u2019entreprise de Redmont avait fait part de ses ambitions \u00e0 ce sujet, \u00e0 la suite d\u2019un premier test r\u00e9ussi dans les eaux californiennes. Deux ans plus tard, elle les concr\u00e9tisait de mani\u00e8re plus aboutie en lan\u00e7ant, en juin 2018, le premier data center sous-marin dans le cadre de son Projet Natik. Apr\u00e8s avoir \u00e9t\u00e9 immerg\u00e9 pendant plus de deux ans, celui-ci est de retour sur la terre ferme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>D\u00e9ploy\u00e9 en Ecosse, plus pr\u00e9cis\u00e9ment \u00e0 l&rsquo;<em>European Marine Energy Centre<\/em>&nbsp;(EMEC) sur l\u2019\u00cele d&rsquo;Orkney, ce centre de donn\u00e9es assume une taille proche de celle d&rsquo;un conteneur, comme vous pouvez le voir sur les images et la vid\u00e9o. \u00c0 l\u2019int\u00e9rieur, 12 racks abritant 864 serveurs offraient une capacit\u00e9 de stockage de 27,6 p\u00e9taoctets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Et pour la petite anecdote, et la touche patriotique, sachez qu&rsquo;on doit sa r\u00e9alisation au fran\u00e7ais Naval Group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Notons \u00e9galement que ce centre de donn\u00e9es fonctionnait avec des \u00e9nergies 100 % renouvelables : mar\u00e9motrice et houlomotrice dans l\u2019eau, solaire et \u00e9olienne sur terre. Ces deux derni\u00e8res sources d\u2019\u00e9nergie \u00e9taient bien entendu amen\u00e9es par un c\u00e2ble sous-marin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Une solution efficace et viable selon Microsoft<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Lors de la pr\u00e9sentation de son projet de centre de donn\u00e9es sous-marin en 2018,\u00a0Microsoft avait avanc\u00e9 trois arguments principaux\u00a0en sa faveur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Le premier, \u00e9conomique, provenait simplement de l\u2019usage de l&rsquo;environnement. En immergeant le data center dans des fonds marins froids, l\u2019eau qui l\u2019entoure fait office de refroidisseur naturel et garantit une tr\u00e8s bonne dissipation de la chaleur. C\u2019est donc une belle \u00e9conomie d\u2019argent, puisque le syst\u00e8me de refroidissement d\u2019un serveur repr\u00e9sente une part non n\u00e9gligeable du co\u00fbt de son entretien.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Le deuxi\u00e8me argument avanc\u00e9 renvoyait au temps de construction r\u00e9duit par rapport \u00e0 un centre de donn\u00e9es terrestre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Enfin, le dernier atout de ce projet r\u00e9sidait dans des temps de r\u00e9ponse am\u00e9lior\u00e9s.
