C\u2019est ainsi que la population uruguayenne souffre, depuis trois ans maintenant, d\u2019une grande s\u00e9cheresse. Au cours des derniers mois, la situation s\u2019est aggrav\u00e9e, jusqu\u2019\u00e0 obliger les habitants de la r\u00e9gion m\u00e9tropolitaine de Montevideo \u00e0 consommer\u00a0une eau charg\u00e9e en sel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00c0 la lumi\u00e8re de ces \u00e9v\u00e9nements, une r\u00e9cente avanc\u00e9e scientifique de la NASA \u2013 qui est l\u2019agence f\u00e9d\u00e9rale responsable de la plus grande partie du programme spatial civil des \u00c9tats-Unis \u2013 semble d\u2019autant moins n\u00e9gligeable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dans un article publi\u00e9 le mardi 20 juin\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/mission_pages\/station\/research\/news\/water_recovery_milestone\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">sur son site Internet<\/a>, celle-ci nous apprend avoir r\u00e9ussi \u00e0 obtenir de l\u2019eau potable\u2026 \u00e0 partir de l\u2019urine et de la sueur des\u00a0spationautes\u00a0de l\u2019ISS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Un nouveau dispositif de recyclage utilis\u00e9 par la NASA<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Plus pr\u00e9cis\u00e9ment, on apprend que le syst\u00e8me pr\u00e9sent \u00e0 bord de la Station spatiale internationale est parvenu \u00e0 atteindre un taux de r\u00e9cup\u00e9ration de 98 % de la transpiration et de l\u2019urine des astronautes. Auparavant, celui-ci s\u2019\u00e9levait entre 93 et 94 %.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Une avanc\u00e9e due \u00e0 l\u2019utilisation d\u2019un nouveau\u00a0dispositif de recyclage\u00a0\u2013 que l\u2019on appelle le Brine Processor Assembly (BPA) \u2013 capable de transformer la saumure qui provient de l\u2019urine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cette prouesse enregistr\u00e9e par l\u2019agence spatiale am\u00e9ricaine constitue un cap majeur en mati\u00e8re d\u2019autonomie de ses astronautes, au cours de prochaines missions de longue dur\u00e9e. Elle est gage d\u2019espoir, car lorsqu\u2019ils s\u00e9journeront dans l\u2019espace, les membres de l\u2019\u00e9quipage devraient, un jour, pouvoir puiser certaines de leurs ressources vitales de leur propre corps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">De l\u2019eau&nbsp;<em>\u00ab\u00a0plus propre que sur Terre\u00a0\u00bb<\/em><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Mais concr\u00e8tement, comment est-ce possible ? Selon les explications communiqu\u00e9es par la NASA, l\u2019urine est \u2013 dans un premier temps \u2013 distill\u00e9e sous vide par les scientifiques. Ensuite, de la saumure et de l\u2019eau sont produites par l\u2019extraction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dans un troisi\u00e8me temps, la saumure sera filtr\u00e9e puis s\u00e9ch\u00e9e \u00e0 l\u2019air chaud par le dispositif de recyclage. L\u2019eau sera alors \u00e9vapor\u00e9e. Enfin, cet air humide sera r\u00e9cup\u00e9r\u00e9 par les d\u00e9shumidificateurs de l\u2019ISS, qui captent la transpiration des astronautes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Par la suite, l\u2019eau r\u00e9cup\u00e9r\u00e9e \u00e0 partir de l\u2019urine\u00a0et de la sueur sera assainie par le biais des filtres du Water Processor Assembly (WPA), mais aussi gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 un r\u00e9acteur catalytique et \u00e0 une dose d\u2019iode.
